H.E. Mr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Otaibi Delivered 3 Million Dollars to Fukushima Aquarium from the State of Kuwait: Donation Ceremony Held in Iwaki City
His Excellency Mr. Abdul-Rahman Humood Al-Otaibi, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Japan delivered 3 million dollars grant to Fukushima Prefectural Marine Science Museum “Aquamarine Fukushima.” The donation was pledged by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jabel Al-Sabah during the State Visit to Japan in March 2012.
The donation ceremony was held at the outdoor stage made of the disaster wreckage in the premise of Aquamarine Fukushima. Witnessed by His Excellency Mr. Yuhei Sato, Governor of Fukushima and Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi, Director General of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), H.E. Mr. Al-Otaibi handed the gift catalogue to Mr. Yoshitaka Abe, Executive Director of Aquamarine Fukushima, which was seriously damaged by the disaster on March 11, 2011.
Mr. Abe used to work at KISR in the 1960’s, and since then, Mr. Abe, those who used work at KISR or have had close relations with the institute have nourished their warm bonds with Kuwait.
From Kuwaiti side, immediately after the disaster on March 11, without waiting for the kind direction from H.S. the Amir Sheikh Sabah, H.E. Mr. Al-Otaibi, the Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Naji and those who were seriously concerned for the tragedy in Fukushima started to appeal the government to seek for every possible means to contribute to alleviate the disaster-struck people’s hardship and to restart their normal lives.
The donation ceremony is a crystallization of such human bonds, endeavors and wishes of the people of both countries. During the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Sato, Governor of Fukushima handed H.E. Mr. Al-Otaibi, the Ambassador the Certificate of Appreciation for the past and present contributions from Kuwait to Fukushima and other disaster-struck areas.
The ceremony was also attended by the Honorable Guests, H.E. Mr. Teruhiko Mashiko, member of the House of Councilors and Ms. Misako Kaji, Assistant Vice-Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Before the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Al-Otaibi and Dr. Naji inspected the exhibitions of Aquamarine Fukushima to review the one-year achievement since the re-opening of the facility in July 2011. They highly appreciated the achievement and wished for further development of the facility.
After the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Al-Otaibi had a friendly conversation with H.E. Mr. Sato, Governor of Fukushima. They discussed over the recovery of Fukushima, especially focusing the economic trends and restoration of people’s lives displaced by the nuclear disaster.
